The Department

The ASPREE program is located within the Monash School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, a teaching and research unit of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences centred at the Alfred Hospital close to central Melbourne . Its staff work closely with the major clinical units of the hospital and play a prominent role in public health medicine in Australia. Its skills in large dataset management and analysis provide a key resource underpinning translational research within the Faculty

The Role

The appointee will be responsible to assisting senior staff in finalising datasets from the ASPREE study in preparation for statistical analysis. He/she will also have a role in summarising published literature, following up items from meetings with local & international collaborators, drafting grant applications and preparing publications. Ideally the appointee will have skills in basic epidemiology & biostatistics

The position will be situated as part of a large team of clinical & public health researchers undertaking the largest, most expensive and highest profile clinical/public health research investigation ever undertaken in this country funded by the US National Institutes of Health and the National Health and Medical Research Council

The position will provide excellent training opportunities in the analysis of large health-related data sets and would be ideal for an individual with high levels of motivation and efficiency. Large scale data management is an area of substantial current workforce shortage.


  • The appointee will have a clinical or biomedical science degree with a higher research qualification (eg MPH, masters of clinical research or recent PhD)
  • Well-developed planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks and set and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written communication and verbal communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct reports and documents
  • A demonstrated awareness of the principles of confidentiality, privacy and information handling
  • A demonstrated capacity to work in a collegiate manner with other staff in the workplace
