JOB DESCRIPTION

The Role:
Seeking an emergency medicine trainee to join an accredited emergency department.

  • 6 months of ED training on a rural ED accredited for 6 months general ED with paediatric logbook and 6 months critical care/anaesthesia in a rural ICU with dedicated anaesthetic time each week.
  • Weekly in situ multidisciplinary simulation and human factors training.
  • Among the FACEMS are a well-known international lecturer in emergency medicine and contributor to one of the most influential emergency medicine teaching website in Australia.
  • Comprehensive primary and fellowship ACEM exam preparation available.
  • 6 months of general emergency medicine in a mixed department with paediatric logbook certification.
  • 6 months accredited ICU time in a 4 bed ICU with nearby CCU. Dedicated anaesthetic time and teaching will allow the trainee to fulfill the ACEM training requirement for airways managed.
  • FACEM support til midnight then on call on site.
  • Supportive inpatient teams and referrals are straight to the specialist without negotiations with inpatient registrars.
  • With over 26 000 presentations per year at the main department and 13 000 at the satellite unit the department is busy enough to expose the clinician to a wide range of cases but usually controlled enough to ensure the clinician has time to treat each patient individually and comprehensively.

The Hospital:
The Hospital has gone through a significant redevelopment with a world-class Emergency Department and Surgical Service.

This 100-bed facility is a level 3/4 base hospital that provides care to over 12,500 patients every year. The hospital provides acute medical, surgical, orthopaedics, paediatric, geriatric, maternity, high dependency, renal, oncology, palliative care, emergency, some specialist outpatient services and day surgery facilities. The hospital undertakes over 3,300 surgical procedures and sees over 24,700 Emergency attendances annually.

  • The emergency department is accredited for 6 months of ACEM training with a motivated FACEM group building on success in ACEM diploma and certificate training.
  • Core specialties of medicine, surgery, anaesthetics, paediatrics, O&G and ICU on site.
  • 4 bed ICU with specialist cover on site
  • Busy elective surgery lists with no ICU or anaesthetic trainees on site.

The Location:
ONLY 3.5 hours from Brisbane and even closer to the GOLD COAST

The city is located 40km from the coast and has an extremely beautiful centre characterised by wide streets and elegant Victorian buildings. One of Australia's most stately country cities, the streets are filled with jacaranda trees which flower in October, providing a magnificent display of blossoms. With a population of approximately 20,000, this city has all the facilities you can expect from a contemporary metropolis and can be reached by road, rail, and air. There is great shopping, award-winning restaurants, and smorgasbord of entertainment from the many pubs and clubs.

There are two public primary schools, two private primary schools, one public secondary school and one Anglican secondary school. The local TAFE provides tertiary education options. In your free time enjoy exploring one of the many pristine beaches, high dunes, paperbark lagoons or freshwater creeks or head off on some of the best coastal walking tracks.

With more than 60 kilometres of coastline, national parks, world heritage rain forest, vibrant towns and villages and loads of country drives there really is something for the whole family in this region.
