This opportunity will allow you to lead a team with excellent support from your operational and clinical management team, our Regional Medical Manager and National Medical Manager along with the Senior Medical Officer will all provide guidance to ensure you are able to excel. Our team of Regional Senior Medical Officers are experienced, close-knit and support one another through formal meetings and informally on a day to day basis – they genuinely understand the importance of the team objective and will help out when required. Our work is both interesting and challenging with a wide range of clinical conditions and an emphasis on attention to detail.


About the Role

We are seeking a Regional Senior Medical Officer (RSMO) to join the Defence Force Recruiting (DFR) Medical Assessment team in Brisbane. This role is responsible for the Queensland Region Brisbane, Maroochydore, Gold Coast and Townsville with approximately 18 direct reports (Medical Officers) whom are managed by the RSMO in conjunction with the relevant Medical Manager as well as 13 Nurses to whom the RSMO provides clinical support to from time to time. This role works in a clinical leadership team together with the Senior Medical Officer and three other RSMOs located across Australia.

This role requires high level interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships as it works as part of a multidisciplinary team including Nursing, Administration, Psychology, Recruitment and Military personnel.

There is a requirement for five days per week, this may be negotiable to suit the right applicant. Hours are, generally, 8.00am-4.00pm.

Key deliverables of this position include:

  • Ensuring Defence Force Recruiting (DFR) medical services are delivered in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with the DFR Medical Quality System and associated policies, procedures and standards.
  • Monitoring performance across the Region to ensure medical services are delivered in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Ensuring region operates in an integrated manner with a focus on teamwork, flexibility, positive peer influence, cooperation and national consistency.
  • Providing comprehensive medical assessment services within the scope of the requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA), DFR guidelines and Company policy and procedures.

As this site forms part of a Region and a wider National team there is a requirement to travel within the state (to some remote locations) as well as travel interstate, travel is always fully paid. CHG Defence considers all requests for professional development and attendance at conferences that will assist you within the DFR scope and for your individual development.


Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a general practice, occupational medicine or medical on-base/defence background. Specific experience in pre-employment medicals would be desirable. Confidence in navigating company software and general computer skills along with a desire to be a team player is critical to the success of the applicant. Experience in the provision of training and auditing of clinical services would be advantageous.

To be eligible for this position applicants must have unconditional registration with AHPRA, appropriate Vocational Registration (FRACGP, FRACP, FAFOEM), Australian Citizenship and be willing to undergo the Australian Defence Force (ADF) security clearance process.
