About Oncology Unit

The Oncology Unit at Monash Health is one of the largest in Australia. It comprises inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory cancer treatment services as well as an extensive clinical trials unit to provide comprehensive and multi disciplinary cancer care in all tumour streams. In keeping with Monash Health's iCARE values, the unit acts with integrity, compassion, accountability, respect and excellence to promote best practice and management for the benefit of all patients. Key areas include the provision of curative to palliative therapy for patients with all solid organ malignancies. Services are provided at Moorabbin Hospital (inpatient, outpatient and chemotherapy day unit), Dandenong Hospital (inpatient consult, outpatient and chemotherapy day unit), Berwick - Specialty Consulting clinics as well as Monash Medical Centre Clayton (Clinical Trials Centre) at the Monash Health Translational Research Precinct - MHTP. About the Role

The Deputy Director will undertake the role in a manner that demonstrates commitment to the positive leadership behaviors of the Oncology Department and to the principles of working collaboratively and supporting the Director to achieve Monash Health's vision, purpose and values.

  • Responsible for the smooth and efficient operations of oncology inpatient, outpatient and consult services across all Monash Health sites.

  • Working with the Director to ensure compliance and consistency with Cancer services across Victoria, particularly with regards to the Department of Health and Human Services access to services policy

  • To proactively develop and implement new improvement initiatives across areas of control

  • Demonstrate active involvement in attracting and supporting appropriate oncology clinical trials

  • Provide pro-active teaching, guidance and mentoring to all levels of medical, nursing and allied health staff

  • Provide support to enhance service efficiency and improve the patient's experience

  • Be visionary and support staff through change management strategies that will develop new models of care to provide better outcomes for oncology patients across south east Victoria, including new initiatives and new programs as per best practice and latest evidence

  • Represent oncology at appropriate Monash Health and external forums and meetings

  • To write/coordinate high end, quality funding submissions/business cases for oncology service improvement and service expansion initiatives for submission to the Program for approval

  • Instill a culture of safety and quality improvement, measurable outcomes and best practice to all areas of responsibility

  • Ensure services within area of responsibility achieve “best practice” standards and conform to accepted standards for Accreditation

  • Provide hands-on acute services to Monash Health oncology patients, both private and public patients

  • It is required that the Deputy Director of Oncology will be an active participant in inpatient/ on call ward service each year

What you need:

  • FRACP or equivalent medical degree registrable in Victoria, with specialty recognition in medical oncology

  • Significant experience in a relevant field of oncology, including appropriate subspecialties

  • Participation in oncology specific continuing education and accreditation processes

  • Doctorial level research qualification or equivalent with current grants

  • Recognised as a Key Opinion Leader in their tumour area with an active clinical trials portfolio

  • Academic status allowing appointment to an adjunct Monash University senior level position
