Palliative Care Volunteer Coordinator

We are seeking an experienced Volunteer Coordinator to join our dynamic team, who is enthusiastic and team focused, with a strong commitment to patient and family focused care. Previous palliative care experience is desirable. The successful applicant will demonstrate aptitude within a multidisciplinary environment. This role is responsible for recruitment, training and support of volunteers and working closely with staff to ensure effective program delivery and identify areas for ongoing development and innovation.

The appointee has the following responsibilities:

  • Volunteer recruitment, screening and selection for a variety of programs within the inpatient unit including ward based, research, fundraising and events

  • Effective delivery of induction and orientation processes

  • Facilitation of training program including Palliative Care Victoria content

  • Management of volunteers through Better Impact database system

  • Provision or outsourcing of additional training required over and above the normal Palliative Care volunteer program training

  • Administration of the program, including day-to-day rostering and other logistical support

  • Volunteer support, debriefing and supervision

  • Arrangement of regular meetings of volunteers and refresher educational events as deemed necessary

  • Engagement within Monash Health Volunteer Services Network

  • Collaboration with relevant palliative care services to enhance program development (eg: collaborative CALD initiatives)

  • Development and implementation of effective retainment strategies

  • Attend the quarterly meetings with the National Volunteer Body. The Unit is located in McCulloch House, a restored heritage building in the grounds of Monash Medical Centre, Clayton. The adjacent ward area is a state-of-the-art modern structure purpose-built for inpatient care.

The Supportive and Palliative Care Unit of Monash Health is based at McCulloch House, and is comprised of the following:

  • A 16-bed inpatient palliative care unit

  • A multidisciplinary palliative care team

  • The Palliative Care Consultancy Service

  • Outpatient Clinics – OncoPain, RAPID Service, Supportive Chronic Conditions Clinic, Pall Care Virtual, and Simply Connect
