Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital - Melbourne, VIC

Health, Medical & Pharmaceutical
Source: uWorkin

Full Time commencing February 2022

(12-month period)

The Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital, with over 150 years of experience, is a world leader in the provision of eye, ear, nose and throat services, education, research and health promotion for our community. Our mission is to provide highly specialised care by setting international standards of quality, innovation and efficiency.

The Eye and Ear has over 50 different outpatient clinics for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of vision and hearing loss and provides a 24 hour emergency eye and ear, nose, and throat service. Annually, we provide care for around 260,000 patients with over 200,000 outpatients, nearly 40,000 emergency patients and over 14,000 inpatients.

This position requires personal leadership qualities from an Advanced Trainee in ophthalmology with an interest in combining a clinical role with a liaison role for junior medical staff in their education and training requirements. The Chief Registrar works closely with the Director of Clinical Training in the preparation and delivery of the microsurgical training program for RANZCO trainees in the Victorian network.

Opportunities are offered to gain supervision and training with complex cataract cases and advanced techniques in cataract surgery, attend subspecialty clinics of interest, and attend many of the education and training opportunities offered at the Eye and Ear. You will also attend the Acute Ophthalmology Service (AOS) and Surgical Ophthalmology Service (SOS) outpatient clinics and Emergency Department which includes some evenings and weekends.

This is an excellent opportunity to further develop required RANZCO competencies particularly in the domains of Communicator, Manager and Scholar.

The successful applicant will be a RANZCO Advanced Trainee, have completed at least 4 years registrar training prior to commencing this role, and preferably have successfully completed the RACE.

Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Australian Medical Association (Victoria) Doctors-in-Training Agreement 2018 -2021.
