About Monash Children's Hospital Simulation

Monash Children’s Simulation (MCS) was founded in 2015 and since opening the purpose-built simulation centre in 2017 has been at the forefront of both educational and technological innovation for paediatrics. The centre is one of the most advanced paediatric simulation centres in Australia and has delivered over 500 courses to more than 5000 participants since opening. MCS has the vision of improving the care that is provided to sick children globally by excellence in the design, delivery and evaluation of educational programmes. With the global COVID-19 pandemic there has been a paradigm shift in the delivery of education to healthcare professionals with social distancing, preservation of personal protective equipment and also a requirement for competency in novel clinical procedures prior to direct patient contact. Since this paradigm shift, MCS has been at the forefront of the delivery of online education with the design, implementation and evaluation of many novel courses. These include the Point of Return (PoR) course which has been delivered to 506 paediatric nurses for recognition of the deteriorating paediatric patient, remote surgical skills courses combining at home participant simulators with surgical instrument tracking software, and also the highly successful Monash Children’s Hospital COVID-19 training response programme. MCS has also been delivering remote interactive undergraduate workshops to Australian metropolitan, rural and also international Malaysian students. Educational activities delivered by MCS have included the subspecialties of Paediatrics, Paediatric Surgery, Neonatology, Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine, General Practice, Respiratory Medicine and General Surgery for both Medical and Nursing staff.
