Royal Hobart Hospital - Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Unit


The Diving and Hyperbaric Unit is a State-wide, specialised service providing hyperbaric treatments for both medical and surgical inpatients and outpatients. The Unit is seeking motivated Grade 3-4 Registered Nurses for a fixed term position of 24 months in the Diving and Hyperbaric Casual Pool.

In the role of Registered Nurse - Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Unit you will:

  • Assist in the delivery of hyperbaric oxygen treatment to patients in line with departmental policies, protocols and guidelines
  • Act as the ‘inside nurse attendant’ with patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen treatment in a multiplace chamber
  • Support patients through education and reassurance during hyperbaric oxygen treatment sessions where apprehension, anxiety and concern can be common in the closed environment

The successful applicants will have completed Part 1 of the Post graduate Certificate in Hyperbaric Medicine, successfully completed the AS 4774.2 medical assessment and be willing to do at least one on-call shift per roster and one diver per 12 weeks.

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
