The Ngaanyatjarra Council (Aboriginal Corporation) represents the interests of around 2000 Ngaanyatjarra, Pintupi and Pitjantjatjara Traditional Owners (Yarnangu) who reside in the twelve member communities of the Ngaanyatjarra Council.

Ngaanyatjarra Health Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled health service providing care to indigenous people living in communities across the vast Ngaanyatjarra Lands in remote Western Australia, near the Northern Territory/South Australian borders. We are governed by an indigenous Board of Directors and are AGPAL accredited.


Job Description

About the role:

Ngaanyatjarra Health Service has an opportunity for a qualified and experienced Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to join their experienced team at the twenty-one bed Aged Care Facility in the community of Wanarn, located in the Gibson Desert.

The successful applicant will have experience in working as a Personal Care Assistant, ideally in an Indigenous remote setting. The role will require the successful applicant to work flexible shifts, available to be on call and will have variety in their day-to-day tasks. Accommodation and travel to and from the Lands will be provided to the successful applicant.

The successful applicant will be self-motivated and prepared to work in a challenging yet highly rewarding environment travelling by 4WD or plane in remote areas while learning about the Ngaanyatjarra people and their culture.

This position is subject to the successful completion of a National Police Check and you must hold a current Australian Manual Drivers Licence.

Ngaanyatjarra Health Service is an Aboriginal community controlled multi-disciplinary health service located in the Ngaanyatjarra land that strives to work with indigenous and non-indigenous people the malparara way [two-way learning] as a part of the Ngaanyatjarra community to promote the health and wellbeing of people in the Lands.

Life on the Ngaanyatjarra lands:

The Ngaanyatjarra Lands cover a vast area of approximately 250,000km2 in the east of Western Australia, up to the Northern Territory and South Australian borders. The communities we service are scattered across the Great Victorian and Gibson Deserts. Approximately 2,000 Ngaanyatjarra people live in the communities on the Lands. Most people in the region speak Ngaanyatjarra as a first language as well as other regional Indigenous languages. English is also spoken.

The Ngaanyatjarra Lands are serviced weekly by a regional air service, Chartair, providing RPT (regular public transport) flights into each community. Each community has Telstra mobile phone coverage (excluding Kiwirrkurra) and broadband internet.

Salary Package:

  • Salary $64,361
  • Plus 9.5% superannuation
  • PBI Salary Packaging (valued up to $15,900)

  • 5 weeks’ annual leave with 17.5% leave loading
  • Availability leave incentive – this includes $2,353 gross return airfare allowance each time and one week paid leave
  • Rent free fully furnished house

  • PBI Salary Packaging up to maximum allowed in FBT year as PBI ($15,900)
