An exciting opportunity currently exists for enthusiastic and highly experienced registered nurses to join our Day Oncology Department at the Olivia Newton John Cancer, Wellness and Research Centre within Austin Health.


The following hours are available. Please indicate in your application which hours you are applying for.



  • 16hours/week for 6months to 31/12/2021

  • 32hours/week for 3 years to 30/6/2024

  • 16hours/week permanent


Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.


The Day Oncology unit of 21 treatment chairs, and 6 beds is a Monday to Friday ambulatory cancer service providing expert nursing care and support for patients and their families in the administration of cancer therapeutics. Treatment is provided on-site, or patients meeting specified safety criteria may be offered the opportunity to receive treatment in their home under the Home Based Cancer Care Program. Patients are supported through their journey via the nurse consultant-led Symptom and Urgent Review Clinic, including telephone support, telehealth and on-site reviews. In addition to administration of systemic cancer therapies, patients with chronic haematological malignancy and those receiving follow up in the post acute allogeneic bone marrow transplant phase are managed in the Day Oncology Unit for blood product support. Nursing care is provided with the support of a collaborative multidisciplinary team to deliver the best and most comprehensive cancer care. Ensuring all our clients are able to access optimal therapy both now and into the future, we are actively involved in the administration of national and multinational clinical trials in collaboration with Austin’s Cancer Clinical Trials department.


As a Registered Nurse – Day Oncology at Austin Health you are responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating evidence based cancer nursing care, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, to achieve optimal healthcare outcomes for our patients. The Registered Nurse is a key member of the health care team responsible for ensuring nursing professional, organisation, legal and ethical standards are met. The Registered Nurse is responsible for supervising and delegating to other health professionals such as Enrolled Nurses and Health Assistants in Nursing


To be successful in this role you must demonstrate knowledge and experience in cancer nursing and be credentialled in Chemotherapy administration and IV cannulation. It is desirable to have previous experience in an ambulatory cancer care setting and to have or be working towards a postgraduate qualification in Cancer Nursing.
