Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Divisional Director to lead the new Division of Access and Demand.

The Division of Access & Demand strategically contributes a critical and end to end view of the Austin Health patient journey. Access & Demand drives operational efficiency and performance improvement through an evidenced based approach and methodology to maintain a continuous and holistic view of the patient journey and provides expert advice to mould future oriented models of practice and operational redesign.

The Division oversees Care Coordination, Bed Resource Management, Non-Emergency Patient Transport, Hospital-In-The-Home, Specialist Clinics, Radiology and Ambulatory Care Centre/Transit Lounge with the objectives of providing an efficient and coordinated patient focused service. The Divisional Director Access and Demand proactively maintains a professional relationship with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Access and Performance Management Branch, Ambulance Victoria, the primary care interface and associated external healthcare networks and other stakeholders.

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer/Deputy CEO, the Divisional Director Access and Demand will be responsible for leading all strategic, professional and operational facets of the Access and Demand Division to ensure the efficient management of resources and effective provision of patient centered services within a complex and dynamic environment.

To be successful in this role you must demonstrate/Key responsibilities will include:

  • Extensive experience in leadership and management of a complex health service/function preferably within a major public hospital

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging best practice patient flow strategies and demand management principles

  • Demonstrated understanding of service innovation models and frameworks and experience in the testing and implementation of new approaches that result in unique and differentiated solutions;

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to initiate and foster sound working relationships with a range of stakeholders acting within a complex and dynamic environment;

  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to facilitate effective workplace change and act for the long term, building organisational change readiness, capability and resilience;

  • Ability to establish and maintain strategic and operational relationships with all internal units, Government organisations, and other health care providers.
