The School of Science has a strong track record of excellence in teaching and research in Mathematics, Data Science Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Physics, Conservation Biology, Marine Biology, Environmental Management and Sustainability. We offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses and have active research programs across all disciplines. Based at both Joondalup and Bunbury campuses of ECU, the School of Science aims to maintain teaching and research excellence through recruitment of new staff

The Role
The School seeks to appoint a Laboratory Technician who will be based at the Bunbury, South West campus. This position provides technical support to all laboratory classes and facilities within the School on the South West Campus.

As part of the Laboratory technician team you will be dedicated to the delivery of high-quality education and student support meeting all technical requirements for practical sessions in the science-related laboratories and field work, including Occupational Health and Safety requirements and staff and student orientations.

We are seeking to recruit a self-motivated and well organised person who is practical and flexible to join our team as a Laboratory Technician, responsible for providing support to meet all technical requirements for laboratory sessions and classes to ensure they run efficiently and effectively.

You will be required to apply your technical experience and expertise in the use and maintenance of all laboratory and field equipment.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and self-motivated person and have:

  • a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or an equivalent level of experience
  • the ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrable technical skills and experience in preparing for laboratory sessions and maintaining equipment particularly associated with biology and chemistry
  • Strong Occupational Safety and Health awareness with a demonstrated ability in the safe handling of hazardous substances and biological materials
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry and Personal Excellence.

Benefits & Remuneration
This part-time (0.8 FTE), fixed term position attracts remuneration of $73,257 to $81,404 pa pro-rata (HEW 5) plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
