Peer Coordinator

  • Part of Peer Support Workgroup at Northern Hospital Psychiatric Units Ward 7 & Ward 8

  • This role is a 6 month Fixed-Term (LSL cover) appointment 

  • 5 days a week (Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 5.00pm), negotiated on commencement

Your new team

  • This position works alongside; 4 Consumer PSW (one who works 3 days per week; two who work 2 days per week; one who works 1.5 days per week); and 2 Family / Carer PSW (one who works 3 days per week; one who works 2 days per week)

  • The PSW and the Peer Coordinator work alongside the broader interdisciplinary team (occupational therapists, social workers, nurses, doctors, allied health assistants etc.)

  • We have a number of Consumer and Family / Carer PSW led group activities alongside our OT

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Be part of a dynamic work group of PSW, Peer Coordinators and clinical staff

  • Ability to determine workload priorities, co-ordinate tasks and work to time lines, and negotiate with PSW and clinical colleagues to work to same

  • Recruitment and retention of the PSW work group

  • Initiating, leading and supporting appropriate continuous improvement activities

  • Lead development, review and provision of information resources for consumers and their families and carers 

Your Contribution

  • A lived / living experience as either a consumer or as a family member / carer for a consumer who experiences mental ill-health and treatment within a mental health service

  • Ability to draw on your own lived / living experience in working alongside PSW and non-peer colleagues

  • Awareness of, and commitment to, your wellbeing and self-care as it relates to your work

  • MINIMUM of 5 years working within a health / community service or related field and experience within these settings in a senior position e.g. team leader / coordinator

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking and critical analysis skills

  • Proficiency in a range of electronic applications including Microsoft Office
