Are you an experienced Mental Health Nurse who is looking for a challenge working in a busy Emergency Department and Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC) working as a clinical expert? This is a great opportunity to expand your career horizons by taking on this temporary role.
Where you'll be working
Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre and Emergency (PECC/ED), St George Mental Health Service, located on the St George Hospital campus, Kogarah.

What you'll be doing

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) will be responsible for performing primary mental health assessments for persons presenting to the St George Emergency Department (ED) who are experiencing mental health issues. The CNC, in partnership with the ED staff and relevant mental health staff will determine a plan of care for persons assessed which may be discharge back to the community with a clearly documented and communicated follow up plan or facilitate an admission to the mental health inpatient unit. The CNC will work day and afternoon shifts 7 days a week with the possibiity of working night shifts if required in the future.

The CNC will promote a mental health nursing service that fosters excellence in clinical, educational and professional leadership, both within the ED and the PECC inpatient unit. The CNC contributes to quality health care by collaborating with health care providers, consumer groups and other community services by developing clinical practice and family oriented standards in emergency and acute mental health care. 
 
The CNC will demonstrate a high knowledge of quality improvement principles, EEO and WH&S requirements.

Selection Criteria

  1. Current unrestricted registration with AHPRA as a registered nurse and at least 5 years full time equivalent post graduate experience and approved post registration nursing qualifications relevant to the clinical area, or qualifications or experience deemed appropriate
  2. Sound knowledge and experience of assessing persons within an acute environment
  3. Demonstrated understanding of nursing processes and their contributions to best practice principles
  4. Proven clinical leadership skills in within the Mental Health program
  5. Demonstrated ability to conduct a thorough Mental Health assessment., including formulation and development of immediate management plans and strategies
  6. Competency in the use of information and communication technology, including standard office software, for email, internet searches, analysis of clinical data, presentations and clinical documentation
  7. Excellant verbal communication skills and be proficient at documenting the outcome of assessments contemporaneously
