Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.


An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Registered Nurse to join The Surgery and Endoscopy Centre


Details of Department


The Operating Service includes 11 operating rooms, 2 procedure rooms, 2 Endoscopy rooms, a post anaesthetic recovery unit with high dependency patient facilities and a Surgery and Endoscopy Centre. The Surgery and Endoscopy Centre (SAEC) is currently located across two sites. Day Surgery, DOSA and Endoscopy are managed on level 2 , Austin Tower, Monday to Friday. Twelve short stay beds facilitate the care of short stay surgery patients up to 48 hours, this service is currently located on 9 West HSB and is a 24-hour, seven-day service.


The service provides for a broad range of elective and emergency surgical procedures including Liver Transplant and Cardiac Surgery with the service for emergency surgery available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The elective service operates Monday – Friday only. The Austin Operating Service has a strong commitment to professional support and education of staff and continuously ensuring our patients receive excellence in care at all times.


The Surgery and Endoscopy Centre (SAEC) is a dynamic and progressive unit consisting of 30 points of care, consisting of Trolleys and recliners and a large admission and discharge reception area.


Patients come from numerous surgical units such as ENT, Endoscopy, Plastics, Urology, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Ortho, Vascular etc.


Day of Surgery patients (DOSA) from surgical units such as Cardiac and Neuro Surgery are also admitted though SAEC. Day Surgery and short stay patients are chosen from ASA 1& ASA 2 classifications and require uncomplicated surgery. SAEC also treats patients requiring emergency surgery.


The SAEC team endeavor at all times to provide the highest standard of patient care in a friendly, welcoming and supportive environment.

  • Perform the duties of this position efficiently to the standards of the department, including participating in the Austin Health performance appraisal program.
