What You'll Be Doing

The Advanced Trainee under supervision will provide effective medical services within a patient centred geriatric model of care to patients, while developing expertise in a Geriatrician led interdisciplinary care and management practice, in a complex clinical environment. There is the opportunity to rotate through subspecialty modules within Geriatric Medicine including orthogeriatrics, psychogeriatrics, Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) in addition to acute and subacute patient care. In addition one of the rotations is designed to facilitate care of patients in RACF using ehealth to attempt to avoid unnecessary hospitalisations and ED presentations. This is an RACP accredited training position and appointment can be made for up to two years. The Shoalhaven rotations include community and outreach plus acute inpatients and orthogeriatrics.

Selection Criteria

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Demonstrated commitment to training in Geriatric Medicine and previous experience in Aged Care Medicine
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised clinical environment using excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education as well as a willingness to teach and support junior medical staff
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
  • Completion of at least four postgraduate years and successful completion of the examination requirements of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, or equivalent, and be eligible to undertake subspecialty training in Geriatric Medicine in Australia; OR, Completion of at least four postgraduate years and eligible to sit the Divisional Clinical Exam (DCE) in 2020, but were unable to due to COVID-19. In the circumstances, the College advises that you may provisionally progress to Advanced Training in the 2021 clinical year
