JOB DESCRIPTION

Inviting experienced paediatricians with a strong interest in child development and behaviour, to join the interdisciplinary community Child, Youth and Family Health team, as the Clinical Lead for the Northern Beaches sector with NSLHD. The position is based at the historical Dalwood Children’s Health Service site, set high on the hill at Seaforth, NSW, overlooking Sydney’s idyllic Middle Harbour.

Purpose of the Position

The role works as part of the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) Child, Youth and Family (CYFH) Community Health Service Team. The incumbent provides clinical leadership for the nominated sector's multidisciplinary team, to provide and inspire innovative, trauma-informed, evidence-based, integrated and client-centred community CYFH care - to optimise child health outcomes, wellbeing and lifetime potential.

Co-ordinate multidisciplinary functions of the CYFH service sector including interdisciplinary team meetings, care planning and case reviews. Lead the team to maintain cohesion and morale and ensure children's medical care is appropriate, safe and consistent with best practice guidelines. Collaborate with the CYFH Clinical Director, other sector Paediatric Clinical leads and the CFH Manager, CFH Nursing Unit Manager and CFH Allied Health Leads to provide clinical direction for services, to ensure consistent, integrated service provision for children across NSLHD. Manage and supervise the sector medical staff.

Provide family-centered, trauma informed, culturally responsive, direct care including child development and behaviour assessment, diagnosis, medical management and care planning for children and young people, from 0-18 years old. Medical responsibilities include clinical care of children who present with any child abuse/neglect issues, developmental and behavioural problems, including all forms of autism, ADHD and Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Provide community paediatrician services for vulnerable children, including those living in out of home care (OOHC), Aboriginal and refugee children and those with developmental disabilities. Promote a population health approach, actively encourage and manage local service development, health promotion, quality improvement and research initiatives. 

Provide teaching, supervision and mentoring for junior medical officers and other clinical staff.

Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them
  3. Demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills required to provide trauma-informed, high standard of clinical care and treatment, and ability to adapt clinical practice to incorporate emerging contemporary evidence relevant to Paediatric Developmental and Behavioural clinical care.
  4. Demonstrated effective interpersonal communication and negotiation skills and ability to work cooperatively with a multidisciplinary team, general practitioners and other agency staff.
  5. Demonstrated leadership ability to inspire and motivate a multidisciplinary team to work collaboratively in providing client-centred care, achieving goals and improving health outcomes. Demonstrated skill, capacity and willingness to manage medical staff and associated paediatric service requirements.
  6. Ability and williness to provide teaching, training and supervision at undergraduate and/or post graduate level, including supervision of junior medical and other multidisciplinary staff.
  7. Demonstrated experience, skills and ability to undertake, and willingness to lead, collaborative research and service improvement. Demonstrated expertise and ability to implement population health service models for community paediatric problems.
  8. Current NSW Driver's Licence (P2 Licence acceptable).
