Consultant intensivist- Permanent Position (Locum position also currently available.)

Eastern Health



Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest public health services. We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services, including maternity, palliative care, mental health, drug and alcohol, residential care, community health and state-wide specialist services to people and communities that are diverse in culture, age, socio-economic status, population and healthcare needs.



The Intensive Care Services at Eastern Health operate 50 physical Intensive Care Beds (21 ICU Equivalents) across 3 sites in a networked and integrated single service. Each site provides full ICU capability (24hrs, 365 days) including invasive ventilation and monitoring, renal replacement therapy (RRT), Echo and critical care ultrasound and bronchoscopy, and hospital wide MET and Code blue response. Case mix includes all general medical and surgical conditions and also includes Obstetrics and Gynaecology, most specialty medical and specialty surgical services (site based), Psychiatry, and ECMO including a growing eCPR program (so far 26 ECMO cases in 16 months). The Intensive Care Service also has established an active CICM training program, with collegial partnerships with Anaesthesia, Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. Along with teaching and training, an active research program continues to grow.



About the role



As a consultant intensivist you will join a motivated and engaged group of intensivists working across all 3 Eastern Health Intensive Care sites. There is a range of clinical services and demand across the three sites, which enhances work experience by providing variety and time for non-clinical projects. All 3 units are modern and well designed, with up to date technology and equipment, and with abundant capacity for future growth. The clinical roster reflects this activity. Annually over 2500 patients are managed by the ICU, increasing each year.

About you



To be successful in this role you will possess:




  • Self-awareness and people centred values

  • A strong commitment to high quality care

  • Registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA in the state of Victoria

  • Significant clinical experience and training in Intensive Care

  • Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM)

  • Recognition by Medicare as a specialist in Intensive Care

  • Participation in relevant College continuing education programs related to Intensive Care



Highly desirable qualities and attributes likely in a successful applicant also include:




  • Post Graduate qualifications. For example, in research, education, clinical subject matter, data and analytics

  • Highly developed interpersonal and leadership experience and skills

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching of medical students and HMOs.

  • Teaching experience of other clinical staff – nursing and allied health.

  • Exposure to research practices and principles.

  • Familiarity with clinical information systems.

  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
