Clinical Director of Peri-operative Services / General Surgeon

We are seeking an experienced specialist in General Surgery to provide clinical leadership as the Director of Peri-operative Services at Wimmera Health Care Group. This permanent full time position is available for commencement in the second half of 2021.

The Region

The city of Horsham has a population of 19,500 and is a 300 kms from Melbourne on the Western Highway and 400kms to Adelaide. It is a well serviced city with diverse education and businesses, positioned at the northern end of the Grampians National Park, nearby lakes and world famous rock-climbing areas as well as being a wine and food hub.

The Health Service

Wimmera Health Care Group has an average of 325 births per year, 12,500 admissions and 4,600 operations and 16,000 ED attendances annually. We have a modern theatre complex, including a day procedure unit, a five-bed intensive care unit, and acute and subacute wards all set within a picturesque garden setting.

The Position

The Clinical Director will lead and manage the delivery of surgical services to achieve optimum, safe surgical care outcomes in an important sub-regional health service in the Grampians and Wimmera region. This position will oversee the clinical delivery of surgical and peri-operative services, ensuring the effective utilisation of resources, including assisting the Director of Medical Services with human resource matters relating to medical team members. The successful applicant will use extensive knowledge and expertise to undertake surgeries, train and develop surgical team members including registrars and interns, and continually improve operations at the health service in line with WHCG strategic objectives. Terms and conditions for this position are in accordance with the AMA Victoria- Victorian Public Health Services Medical specialists Enterprise agreement 2018-21. An attractive salary package will be negotiated for the right candidate.

Essential Key Selection Criteria include:

  • Medical Practitioner AHPRA Registration

  • FRACS or equivalent qualification recognised by RACS

  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of peri-operative / surgical services at a divisional or unit level

  • Minimum of 5 years clinical leadership and management experience including developing surgical team members

  • Knowledge and evidence of adopting and renewing surgical best practice
