What You Will Be Doing

Peninsula Health and Frankston Private Hospital have partnered to provide surgical services to public patients in a 5-day, Monday morning to Friday evening, hospital model.

The successful applicants will participate in a three-resident rotating roster to provide HMO cover to Peninsula Health patients who are having surgery at Frankston Private Hospital.

The three-resident roster will cover all of the hours of operation of Ballam ward at Frankston Private Hospital. No weekend work will be required.One in three weeks will involve an overnight shift from Monday through Thursday nights.

Patients will have undergone elective surgery through various surgical units eg. Orthopaedics, Plastics, Urology, Gynaecology and General Surgery.

Key Responsibilities

• Under direction, provide appropriate medical care to patients and assist more senior doctors in complex cases.
• Ensure all patients are admitted to hospital, including completion of medication charts and fluid charts. All patients should also have analgesia,antiemetics, VTE prophylaxis charted where appropriate. If VTE prophylaxis is contraindicated, it is to be documented in the patient notes.
• Ensure every time a patient is seen, a note (including time) should be made in the patient’s FP progress notes. Ensure documentation is accurate and all discussions between treating team and patient are accurately documented in notes.
• Notify the unit Registrar of all unwell & unstable patients, and handover these patients
• Ensure all appropriate investigations are ordered and the results are acknowledged in a timely and appropriate manner..
• Be aware of and work in accordance with organisational policies and procedures including occupational health and safety and relevant legislative requirements.
• Demonstrates positive workplace behaviours and relationships at all times.

What You Need

• MBBS or equivalent
• Satisfactory completion of a recognised PGY2 year
• Eligible for registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner
• Sound clinical knowledge, skills and experience in contemporary medical and evidence based practice
