The Drug and Alcohol Counsellor acts to minimise the harmful effects of substance use on people, by providing and maintaining a high standard of individualised client care through the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive Drug and Alcohol Service for patients accessing the service, which will be governed within the objectives and policies of the Northern New South Wales Local Health District.

What you'll be doing

  1. Tertiary qualifications and be a member of relevant associations or registered with the relevant board, in the following disciplines Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, nursing. Professions which fall under the health Professionals State Award (Psychology, Social Worker, Counselor) who apply must provide evidence of 3 years clinical experience in their profession and under minimal direct professional supervision
  2. Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of treatment and prevention approaches in the drug and alcohol field applicable with people presenting with complex needs.
  4. Demonstrated clinical experience in drug and alcohol, assessment, referral, counselling, group work and brief interventions.
  5. Demonstrated experience in consultation, liaison and working in partnership with government services, non-government agencies and the broader community groups.
  6. Demonstrate experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of alcohol and other drug intervention and strategies.
  7. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt work practices to suit circumstances in a diverse range of out-patient and /or outreach settings.
  8. Valid unrestricted drivers licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment.
