Temporary fixed term 0.3 FTE, 12 hours per week 12 months

Applications are invited from suitably qualified consultants for the position of Staff Specialist in Rehabilitation Medicine or General Medicine with experience and interest in Intellectual Disability Health. 

As a senior member of a newly formed Specialised Intellectual Disability Health Team you will provide contemporary comprehensive specialist services for people with an intellectual disability across Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) and Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD).

You will provide and support training to clinicians in HNELHD and CCLHD across multiple disciplines to achieve quality education and safe clinical practice, including providing insights to, and with, the Intellectual Disability Team about the Medical and Rehabilitation priorities and impacts for people with intellectual disabilities, their family, carers and supports. The Specialised Intellectual Disability Health Team is based at our HNELHD Wallsend Campus and includes a dedicated and innovative multidisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate:

  • Will have a primary medical degree registrable with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (FAFRM) or General Medicine (FRACP) or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award or the Health Insurance Act 1973
  • Will have recent clinical experience in Rehabilitation Medicine or General Medicine and Intellectual Disability patients
  • Will be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team
  • Will have a commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement
