About our General Medicine South West 2 Ward at Dandenong Hospital

Monash Health is the largest public health service in Victoria, employing over 18,000 people across a range of specialities.

South West 2 is undertaking a transformational change as we re-develop an Acute General Medical Unit South West 2 which will service 20 beds, admitting patients with, but not limited to respiratory, cardiac and renal conditions. As a unit, we are seeking an experienced Nurse Manager (NM), focused on clinical development of staff, improving the patient experience and being open to innovative and collaborative ideas.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Operations, the NM is a leadership role responsible for the clinical and operational outcomes and the management of staff including workforce management and strategy. The NM will also proactively contribute to our vision of “exceptional care, outstanding outcomes” of our specialist surgical, renal and procedural medicine services. With exceptional communication and proven people management skills, the NM will lead by example and inspire their team to perform at their best whilst working collaboratively and in partnership with all key stakeholders.

As NM you will also have accountability for financial and human resource management as well as quality and risk management in the unit, including service improvements and innovative models of care. As a NM, you are also a leader in the Ward Governance Committee comprised of a Medical, Pharmacy and Allied Health lead. You will be required to attend organisational committee meetings and be responsible to implementing and responding to identified clinical gaps in accordance to the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS)

This is a full-time ongoing position working Monday to Friday.

About You

You have been developing your management and leadership skills or you are an accomplished Associate Nurse Manager; either way, you are ready to take this next step in your Career. You lead by example, thrive working in a dynamic, fast paced environment and are truly passionate about delivering a high standard of evidence based nursing care to all patients. You communicate clearly and effectively, are able to build rapport and engage with others at all levels to deliver outcomes in a timely manner and are an advocate of Monash Health’s Strategic Guiding Principles. You also thrive on continuous improvement and are ideally working towards a Post Graduate Certificate, Diploma or Masters of clinical Management

You Also Have:

  • demonstrated management & clinical leadership experience, ideally in a similar role

  • a high level of proficiency with a range of technology solutions

  • proven time management, superior communication & influencing skills

  • critical thinking, analytical & problem solving skills

  • genuine thirst for learning and open to further study

  • a commitment to proactively support colleagues at all levels as well as mentor a team

  • experience in consumer engagement in the hospital setting

  • undertaken or have assisted with quality improvement projects supporting the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS)

  • experience in the management of complex patients, patient flow & employee management

 What You Need:

  • A relevant Post Graduate Qualification

  • Proven clinical experience in an acute Hospital Ward

  • Proven clinical management and leadership in a hospital setting

  • A willingness to learn & grow your leadership capabilities through commitment to a portfolio

  • Australian working rights

  • Current AHPRA registration
