Full Job Description
An opportunity is available for a Research Assistant to join the Infectious Diseases and Immune Defence Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the position

The Research Assistant will be trained to culture malaria parasites through their complete lifecycle. The research will involve mouse and mosquito infections to determine the mode of action and utility of novel antimalarial drugs in development at the Institute. The laboratory is developing novel antimalarial therapies that block parasite development at multiple stages of the lifecycle.

The successful candidate will hold a relevant Honours or Masters degree and have a strong background in ethical research with mice. Proficiency with mammalian cell culture, biochemistry, and flow cytometry is desirable. The successful applicant will work within a team of researchers studying malaria parasite biology and interventions in the Institute’s insectary using pre-clinical models.

Selection Criteria
A relevant Honours or Masters qualification
Previous experience involving ethical research with mice
Mammalian cell culture
Flow cytometry (desirable)
An excellent academic record and list of achievements
Proven interpersonal and collaborative skills in achieving research outcomes
A strong work ethic
Capacity to work independently and be a productive member of a research team
Demonstrated ability and potential for excellence and productivity in research
Terms of appointment

This position is available for for 1 year in the first instance in a full-time capacity. Salary is HEW 5 - HEW 6 ($70,971 - $81,520). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
