About the Department

The Social Work Department at SVHM is recognised as a leader in developing and delivering best clinical practice to highly vulnerable groups such as people experiencing homelessness, family violence and addiction. In addition to this, SVHM has a widely respected Aboriginal Health Unit and over 10 years of experience in designing a comprehensive clinical model of responding to Elder Abuse. The Social Work Department is comprised of 3 teams and covers patients at St Vincent’s Hospital in Fitzroy, St Vincent’s on the Park in East Melbourne and St George’s Hospital in Kew. We provide a comprehensive and flexible professional development program, as well as structured supervision and support for clinical decision making. In addition to this, we are able to assist you to develop your skills and plan your career progression via varied clinical rotations in a wide range of practice areas. This may include the opportunity to experience work at different sites within SVHM.

With a strong focus on innovative service delivery and continuous practice improvement, the Social Work Department also benefits from the knowledge and support of a Grade 4 social worker who is dedicated to research and quality improvement.

About the Role

An opportunity currently exists for an experienced administration assistant to join the team on a fixed term basis. This position provides essential support to the social workers and senior team within the St Vincent’s Hospital social work department.

The classification for this position will be HS1 ($58,400 per annum).


Reception duties - both in person and over the telephone. This includes management and triage of enquiries and referrals.
Administrative duties which include advanced typing, minute-taking, statistical and other data entry, data collection/reporting, and management of departmental ordering and supplies.
Activities which contribute to supporting patient care in collaboration with SW clinical staff and SW Seniors.
Co-ordination of regular meetings and scheduling of events including arranging relevant I.T. where required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

A qualification in administration/health administration would be well regarded
Significant experience in provision of administration support in a busy environment
Comprehensive knowledge of privacy and confidentiality requirements when working in a hospital environment is essential
Demonstrated ability to manage data collection systems and produce monthly and ad-hoc data reports
