Applications are invited from Registered Nurses with substantial acute nursing experience to join our Short Stay Unit (SSU) within the BRHS Emergency Department team. If you are looking for a role with less shift work then this is a great benefit of this position which is worked on primarily day shifts, Monday to Friday.

STATUS: Part Time, Ongoing

HOURS: 48.0 hours per fortnight

Applications are invited from Registered Nurses with substantial acute nursing experience to join our Short Stay Unit (SSU) within the BRHS Emergency Department team. If you are looking for a role with less shift work then this is a great benefit of this position which is worked on primarily day shifts, Monday to Friday. 

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to provide coordination and leadership for the SSU and help achieve effective patient flow through the SSU. As an integral member of the Emergency team providing excellence in nursing care you will take responsibility for day patients and their treatments.

The Emergency Department of Bairnsdale Regional Health Service provides trauma and emergency healthcare to the people of Bairnsdale and the wider East Gippsland region. Recently the department has been expanded to include a 5 bed Short Stay Unit which receives Emergency Department flow though and Mobile Ambulatory Day Unit (MADU) infusion patients. Medical staffing is comprised of a SMO with strong support from HMO's, interns on rotation and the VMO community.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Minimum 3 years acute nursing experience
  • BLS and Advanced Life Support Certificate required
  • Competency in PICCS and PORTS and triage training experience or commitment to obtain
  • Demonstrated competence in Acute Nursing with a good understanding of referral systems, patient flow & discharge planning
  • Demonstrated competence in the administration of infusions and transfusions to both elective and emergency patients.
  • Prior experience in leadership required and demonstrated ability to work autonomously within scope of practice
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to utilise key principles to ensure a good clinical handover, accurate and thorough documentation and escalation of care.
