Ward 9 West is a dynamic and progressive unit consisting of 16 beds and a dedicated Acute Surgical Transition Unit.

Patients come from numerous surgical units such as ENT, Endoscopy, Plastics, Urology, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Ortho, Vascular etc.

9 West caters to short stay elective and emergency patients, ensuring patients receive the very best care in a safe and supportive environment. The ward has a refined model maintaing patient flow and timely discharge.

The 9 West team endeavour at all times to provide the highest standard of patient care in a friendly, welcoming and supportive environment.

The Nurse Unit Manager is recognised as the leader of the nursing team who models the core values of Austin Health through effective leadership and management of the clinical nursing and support staff within the Unit.

The Nurse Unit Manager is responsible for:

  • Ensuring the delivery of evidence based nursing care that meets professional, organisational, legal and ethical standards in order to optimise health outcomes for the community.

  • Promoting and fostering a positive culture and safe working environment,

  • Driving change

  • Ensuring effective utilisation of financial resources within a cycle of continuous service improvement.
