About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for a Community Health Promotions Officer to join the Pintupi Homeland Health Service team in Kintore, NT.

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of a Healthy Youth Program, a preventative health program targeting young adults (15-34).

More specifically, your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Facilitate and support clients to ensure access to specialists and allied health services;
  • Maintain a client focused approach for the delivery of the program;
  • Provide community driven health promotion and education focusing on preventative health, diabetes, renal and cardiovascular disease;
  • Work in conjunction with relevant stakeholders to provide gender-specific individual support and case management especially for young people;
  • Implement exercise programs in accordance to the level of fitness of individual clients; and
  • Provide guidance and work in conjunction with two Indigenous health workers.

About You

To be successful in this role you will hold a relevant qualification in health promotion, public health, education, community development or an allied health discipline.

Experience working in a remote area or with disadvantaged people is desirable, however not essential.

An excellent communicator, you will have well developed interpersonal skills including the ability to build effective working relationships across a variety of stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have a high level of patience and the ability to show empathy and understanding of indigenous culture. With great listening skills, you'll be able to provide support and motivate people towards healthy choices.

Please Note: A current manual Driver's Licence, OCHRE Card and a criminal history check will be required prior to commencing in this role.

You will be rewarded with a competitive salary package circa $85,000 - $90,000 negotiable on experience plus super and salary sacrifice options up to $15,900.

Subsidised housing in your own private 1 bedroom apartment is provided with all utilities included for $20 per week.

With 6 weeks annual leave and 4 weeks isolation leave per year, travel is also provided.

PHHS also provides one week of paid professional development leave per year, plus a laptop and mobile.
About the Organisation
Pintupi Homelands Health Service is an expanding and well equipped AGPAL accredited primary healthcare facility located in Kintore. Servicing a close knit community of 450, the health service provides clinical services with a dedicated staff of nurses, health promotion officers, Aboriginal Health Workers, a doctor and support staff.

Emphasis is being placed on preventive health and community involvement in a commitment "to close the gap" and improve the health and well-being of the Kintore community.
About Kintore
Kintore is located in the Northern Territory, some 530 kilometres west of Alice Springs. This remote part of Outback Australia is truly beautiful and is a popular destination for 4WD and trekking enthusiasts. Kintore has a school (Walungurru School), college (high school and adult), child care centre, church, store, airstrip, health clinic, police station and a swimming pool.
