About the role

This is a great opportunity for occupational therapists to undertake a discipline specific role, with services individualised to support recovery and may include individual and group work, assessment and intervention, discharge planning, education for consumers and their families, and liaison with other services and programs as needed. The successful applicant will work along side a Grade 3 (part time) and Grade 1 OT (full time) at the Maroondah Inpatient Units and join the existing 60+ Occupational Therapists employed in the mental health program at Eastern Health. Discipline specific supervision and support and extensive professional development and collaboration opportunities will be provided with the team at Maroondah IPU and the OT professional group.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia, Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency.

  • A minimum of 12 months post graduate experience as a registered occupational therapist.

  • Relevant theoretical knowledge, experience and skills in the provision of evidence based occupational therapy assessment and treatment in a mental health setting.

  • Comprehensive understanding of, and experience in delivering, recovery oriented mental health practice.

  • Demonstrated ability to skilfully engage consumers in the development and implementation of individualised plans designed to promote, foster and sustain personal recovery.

  • Demonstrated experience and skills in supporting consumers to engage in, structure and access meaningful daily activity and occupation.A commitment to working with consumers from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds and to providing services that are family and gender sensitive.

  • Knowledge of the mental health sector, including roles and workings of mental health teams and relevant community resources and services to support people with mental illness.

  • Proven ability and commitment to work collaboratively with consumers, carers, the multidisciplinary team and external agencies.

  • Commitment to supervised and reflective practice, lifelong learning and further development.
