Employment Type: Permanent Part Time
Hours Per Week: Up to 16

Purpose of the position The position is in the Northern Beaches Child & Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS), located near Manly and provides consultation, assessment and management to community-based children, adolescents and their families, as well as to the Northern Beaches Hospital.

The team is dynamic, well-established and offers a variety of therapeutic community-based interventions for children, adolescents and their families. The service also has links to Northern Beaches Hospital, providing consultation to short-stay and paediatric wards.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to provide psychiatric leadership to the team through direct clinical care, offering consultation and teaching, as well as the opportunity to further research interests and partaking in the child & adolescent on-call rota.

Provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).
The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within the District.

Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (FRANZCP) and Certificate of Advanced Training in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (RANZCP) or Membership of the Faculty of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (RANZCP) or currently enrolled in such training. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered.
  2. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders, colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  3. Advanced knowledge about assessment and treatment of child and adolescent mental health problems consistent with the senior nature of the position.
  4. Skills in managing complex mental health problems in a multidisciplinary context and advanced skills in consultation at the individual, group and service level.
  5. Willingness to be involved in academic activities (teaching and research).
  6. Skills in negotiating with a wide range of people and organisations including working with, and engaging consumers and carers.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education, and the ability to lead and participate in collaborative research activities
  8. Unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence and the ability to drive.
