JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an early career (Level 1) occupational therapist to join the Institute of Driver Health team working with a broad range of clients in driver assessment and rehabilitation in the greater Sydney area. This is a fantastic opportunity to become qualified as an occupational therapy driving assessor. Applicants do not need to be driver assessor qualified: training and support will be provided. The position is full time.

Applicants must have a degree in occupational therapy, current AHPRA registration and a current drivers’ license and vehicle. Applicants must meet the selection criteria as well as provide a current police check record and working with children check. Applicants will need to obtain a Medicare Provider Number on commencement.

About us:

Institute of Driver Health provides driver assessment and rehabilitation services; conducts training courses for health professionals and driving instructors in driver assessment and rehabilitation; and, conducts research with our partners. The service is coordinated by Dr Beth Cheal and Dr Joan O’Donnell.

Dr Cheal is an Occupational Therapy Driving Assessor who has worked in driver assessment and rehabilitation for over 20 years, and has conducted training in this area since 2006 via the University of Sydney and Institute of Driver Health. Her PhD examined off-road screening of cognitive fitness to drive. Dr O’Donnell is a lecturer at the University of Sydney and Occupational Therapy Driving Assessor. Her PhD investigated ability to drive post-surgical and conservative management of unruptured intracranial aneurysms.

Selection criteria:

Demonstrated knowledge and skills in occupational therapy practice for working with clients with a range of medical conditions.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team to meet the needs of clients, their families and other key stakeholders.
Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously using effective problem solving and time management skills to work in a flexible way to meet service delivery needs.
Degree in occupational therapy with current AHPRA registration
Current Australian drivers’ license or international equivalent
