About the role

The HOPE Initiative provides support for people at the point of hospital discharge that are identified as at-risk of suicide and/or repeated intentional self-harm and aims to support consumers to address those factors that contribute to suicidal ideation and support consumers to progress towards their preferred future. The aim of the initiative is to prevent avoidable suicide attempts and death by suicide by providing the target cohort with assertive, tailored postvention and psychosocial support in the community for a period of up to three months post discharge from hospital. The program also supports the person’s carers and families to identify and build the protective factors that reduce the risk of suicide attempt/completed suicide.

The Senior mental health clinician (Grade 3 Allied Health (OT/SW/Psychology) or Gr 4 Mental Health Nurse) will utilise relevant evidence based models of suicide intervention and post-vention, primarily Solution Focused Brief Therapy and the Collaborative Recovery Model, to provide high quality psychiatric nursing/ occupational therapy/ clinical psychology/social work and mental health assessment, brief intervention, consultation and community linkage services within a recovery oriented framework. The senior clinician will provide recovery oriented services in partnership with consumers, their families, carer and others service providers, and also in collaboration with HOPE colleagues and the Consultant Psychiatrist to referred consumers and their families.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Qualification (and registration where required) as Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker or Psychologist

  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience in a variety of mental health settings Demonstrated experience working with people who have attempted suicide

  • A strong commitment to high quality care

  • The ability to work as part of a diverse team

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
