JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary Purpose

Provide specialist clinical services for optimal patient outcomes within the Emergency/Critical Care setting including education and training of medical and nursing staff and the junior medical officers within the Emergency/Critical Care Departments.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide best practice clinical management and treatment of patients in the Emergency/Critical Care Department within the scope of practice granted by the MNCLHD Medical & Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.
  • Ensure a high standard of clinical record documentation and detailed patient treatment plans including completion of clinical records (eg medication charts/orders) to reflect clinical decisions.
  • Provide a consultant service as required for patients of other medical staff.
  • Participate in the on-call roster for the Emergency/Critical Care Department.
  • Adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence-based best practice.
  • Ensure effective handover processes in accordance with MNCLHD guidelines.
  • Participate in facility and/or MNCLHD clinical governance requirements.
  • Participation in teaching and training at all levels of undergraduate and post-graduate medical education where required in accordance with NSW Health, MNCLHD guidelines and specialist medical college vocational training programs (if applicable).
  • Supervise junior medical staff in accordance with NSW Health, MNCLHD guidelines and specialist medical college vocational training programs.
  • Participate in the MNCLHD Performance Management program with demonstrated clinical competency within the clinical privileges granted by the MNCLHD Medical & Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.
  • Attend, participate and support administrative meetings as required.
  • Utilise information systems to enable informed decision making and care planning.
  • Comply with relevant legislation and regulations, NSW Ministry of Health policies and MNCLHD procedures to assist in meeting Activity Based Funding, Commonwealth and State targets. 
  • Actively promotes and participates in patient safety and ongoing quality improvement programs. Engages in practices that promote the best possible health outcomes for patients/clients, and supports a culture of patient safety, clinical quality and innovation.
