About the Department

St. Vincent’s Mental Health (SVMH) includes an adult area mental health service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara.

The Hawthorn Continuing Care Team provides ongoing specialist treatment and support to meet the identified needs of clients who suffer with a serious mental illness and associated high level of disability in the City of Boroondara. The multidisciplinary team provides a range of clinical and therapeutic interventions using the recovery-focused Strengths Model of Recovery-Oriented Practice.

About the Role

Under the guidance of the Team Manager and Team Consultant Psychiatrist, the Senior Clinician is responsible for the maintenance of the Early Psychosis (EPP) portfolio at Hawthorn Community Mental Health Service and the provision of services that will enable earlier access to mental health services for those people who are developing, or at risk of developing, a psychotic disorder. This position will carry a caseload of clients.

You will join a dynamic community mental health team operating under a recovery-oriented model of care, utilizing the Strengths Model of Case Management.

Classification Range
  • OT/SW Grade 3 YB24 - YB27 or YC46 - YC49 ($93,860 - $107,234 per annum)
  • Psychologist Grade 3 PL1 - PL4 ($100,037 - $113, per annum)
  • RPN Grade 4 NP75 - NP77 ($98,800 - $109,200 per annum)
Duties
  • Undertake the assessment, provision of treatment and delivery of targeted interventions to consumers with complex mental health related needs and their family/carers in line with SVMH policies and strategic direction
  • Hold a caseload of complex consumers who are presenting with an initial episode of psychotic symptoms and implement clinical tools and processes according to the early psychosis care pathway and specific case management
  • Provide specialist support to external agencies who are likely to encounter people with emerging psychosis, including youth counselling, support and accommodation services, schools and support services, drug and alcohol services, CAMHS and Headspace
  • Facilitates psychoeducation sessions with consumers’ families & careers regarding Early Psychosis;
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor Degree in Occupational Therapy. Current registration or eligibility for membership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Bachelor Degree in Social Work – Current registration with AASW or eligibility for AASW registration. AASW Mental Health Accreditation is highly regarded. Overseas qualified Social Workers to provide evidence of AASW assessment of qualifications.
  • Clinical Masters in Psychology and current Registration as a Psychologist under the Health Professions Registration Act 2005 (Vic). Current registration or eligibility for membership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Division 3 or Division 1 Nurse with Psychiatric Endorsement from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • A minimum of 5 years post qualification in psychology, a minimum of 5 years post qualification in nursing, and a minimum of 7 years post qualification in Occupational Therapy or Social Work.
  • Proven ability to provide high quality mental health interventions to people with serious mental illness, including assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, rehabilitation, demonstrated skills in engaging consumers with complex needs and a capacity to identify and respond to dual diagnosis clients
