What You Will Be Doing

The Aged Persons Intensive Community Assessment and Treatment Team (APICATT) is a specialist multidisciplinary team which provides an intensive community-based mental health service to clients over the age of 65 living in the Peninsula Health Mental Health Service (PHMHS) catchment who are experiencing severe and persistent mental health disorders. The APICATT team operates seven days a week (business hours) as part of the Aged Persons Mental Health ambulatory model. APICATT has strong links with aged persons mental health inpatient unit and residential care services; and work closely with general medical practitioners, private psychiatrists and psychosocial support providers.

This specialist role will provide comprehensive multidisciplinary assessment and treatment interventions during an acute phase of illness as an alternative to hospitalisation, as well as enabling early discharge from a hospital admission. The mental health clinician will provide urgent community based assessment and short term treatment interventions for people with a mental illness in crisis, including suicide prevention. They will provide intensive treatment in the home in a manner that assures the safety of the client, family, carer and others.

What You Need

The successful applicant will be a registered nurse or allied health clinician with advanced interpersonal skills and preferably have a broad range of experience in mental health and in particular aged persons mental health and the crisis sector. They should possess skills in assessment, treatment, consultation, risk assessment and recovery; and have a thorough understanding of the mental health system, as well as other community resources available.
