JOB DESCRIPTION

About BGS

Founded in 1882, Brighton Grammar is an Anglican school passionate about developing, inspiring and guiding each boy to achieve his personal best in every way. The School’s evidence based teaching and learning processes, supported by a research centre, attracts the best minds in education.

The role

We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Psychologist to join our pastoral care team on a fixed term basis, commencing in May and working until early December 2021.

The School Psychologist plays a key role in supporting the psychological, emotional and physical wellbeing of students, parents and, from an advisory perspective, staff.

The School Psychologist is responsible for the provision of counselling support to students in the Secondary School. In addition to this, the School Psychologist works closely with other School Psychologists, Heads of House/Year and the Learning Strategies team to identify students with special learning and social/emotional needs.

As this is a significant role in the delivery of our pastoral care structure, the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate experience in:

  • Providing psychological services to adolescents, particularly boys in Years 7 and 8;
  • Collaborating with academic and academic support staff to ensure the individual needs of boys are being met;
  • Supporting staff with strategies for managing individual or group issues;
  • Interpreting psycho-educational assessments;
  • Engaging with parents and care-givers of boys, providing support and referrals as required;
  • Interacting with external agencies and medical practitioners as required to support the needs of students.

Full registration as a Psychologist under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is essential. Membership of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS) and previous experience in a school environment is highly desirable. A current Working with Children Check is essential for this position. Should you not have a current check, you would be expected to apply for one should you be successful in securing the position.

Further information, including a position description and how to apply is available under the Current Opportunities section on our website: www.brightongrammar.vic.edu.au.

All applications will be treated in confidence. Applications close: Friday 18th April. Please note: shortlisting and interviews will commence prior to the application closing date so don't delay with your application.

Brighton Grammar School is fully committed to the protection of children. The successful applicant will be expected to satisfy child protection screening, and adhere to the School’s Child Protection Policies.
