About the Monash Emergency Research Collaborative (MERC) at Monash Health

Monash Health is the largest public health service in Victoria, employing over 18,000 people across a range of specialities.

The Monash Emergency Research Collaborative (MERC) is a multi-disciplinary collaborative network consisting of both clinical and research focused staff in emergency care. We focus on undertaking translational research that provides outcomes aimed at driving the implementation of best practise emergency care.

We are part of the Department of Medicine in the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health.

The Monash Emergency Network comprises four emergency departments, Monash Medical Centre Adult and Paediatric EDs, Monash Dandenong ED and Monash Casey ED. The emergency service is committed to the development and growth of emergency research and improvement in patient centred emergency care.

Our aim is to increase the capacity of emergency research at Monash Health and enhance the translational impact by ensuring coordination of research activities across the Monash Emergency network and the provision of a sustainable research infrastructure. Monash Health.

About the Role

The Research Co-ordinator plays a major role in the set-up, implementation and coordination of local and multi-centre adult and paediatric emergency medicine, nursing and allied health, and clinical toxicology research projects in the Monash Emergency Service carried out under the auspices of the Monash Emergency Research Collaborative (MERC).

The successful applicant will be based at Monash Medical Centre but will visit the Emergency Departments at Dandenong and Casey, as required, for meetings, staff education and engagement sessions. The role reports to the incumbent Chair/s of MERC.

The position will suit a person with experience in hospital-based clinical research and coordination of multi-centre investigator-initiated projects.
The successful candidate will enjoy working both independently and as a member of a dynamic multidisciplinary team.

About You

You have been developing your management, research and leadership skills You are an advocate of Monash Health's Strategic Guiding Principles.

What You Need:

  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent in health or related research field (Masters or Doctoral degree preferable)
  • An appropriate level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training or professional accreditation.
  • Knowledge of the principles of human research and ethics processes and good clinical practice framework.
  • Experience in data and database management and data collection.
  • Ability to establish a good working relationship with colleagues both internal and external to the emergency network.
  • Experience in negotiating with multiple organisations and professional groups within a project management framework.
  • A commitment to confidentiality, total discretion and integrity.
  • Excellent computer literacy
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and flexibly
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to provide education in relation to MERC research activities
  • Ability to write reports and undertake literature reviews
