The Position

St John of God Community Wellbeing Services are a community based service that provides specialised mental health services to people aged 16 and over. It provides community-based psychiatric assessment and referral, counselling, therapeutic group work and support services to families experiencing mental health difficulties. These services are offered on a non-residential, non-crisis basis.

We currently have an opportunity available for suitably qualified and experienced Mental Health Clinician to commence as a member of our multidisciplinary team in providing assistance to individuals and families who are experiencing mental health difficulties within the Ballarat area. The Mental Health Clinician participates in the assessment, planning and delivery of mental health care, provides community based referrals to other agencies as deemed appropriate in addition to phone and office based consultations to families and individuals in response to referrals.

Due to team context, for psychology applicants, we are seeking a fully general registered psychologist (we will not have capacity to supervise psychology registrars or internships)

Successful candidates must be able to travel throughout the Ballarat area.

This is a permanent part time position working 45.6 hours per fortnight which may increase to 76 hours per fortnight to cover a maternity leave vacacny period (potentially from May 2021).

The successful candidate will have:

  • A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • Have relevant Registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia or Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Social Worker or Occupational Therapist with mental health credentialing with the AASW
  • High-level written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience/ability to provide group programs and individual therapy for youth and adult patients/clients presenting with a myriad of concerns.
  • Demonstration of research and evidence based practise methodologies and ability to undertake quality improvement activities
  • Demonstrated senior clinical experience and leadership in a specialised area of clinical practice within a healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrable ability to undertake professional supervision and/or mentor junior staff and to promote professional competence and growth in staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop evidence based and innovative clinical practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and conduct quality improvement activities.
  • Valid Driver’s licence with the ability to provide services in a variety of locations.
