The Nurse Manager Executive Unit at Prince of Wales Hospital is a new position which is being offered as a full time rotation opportunity for emerging nurse leaders. The initial posting is envisaged as 12 months and will provide opportunity for an emerging leader to further develop their knowledge and experience in nursing management. You will be working in collaboration with the Director of Nursing & Deputy Director of Nursing / Director of Operations, Virtual Care Centre to assist with the daily administration and operations of the nursing service.

The Prince of Wales Hospital is a major teaching hospital based in Sydney's eastern suburbs that serves all of New South Wales. The hospital is situated close to the city, Bondi Beach, excellent shopping facilities, and within walking distance to Coogee Beach.
We are affiliated with the University of NSW, one of the premier medical teaching facilities in Australia. This assists us to provide excellence in care in conjunction with our commitment to clinical teaching and medical research.
Currently the NSW Government is investing $720 million to redevelop the Prince of Wales Hospital and progress the vision of Randwick as a world-leading centre for health and wellbeing, research, education and teaching. An Acute Services Building will be built in Stage 1 including a new adult emergency department, extra beds, intensive care unit, and new operating theatres for the campus.

More than just a new hospital building, this major redevelopment will transform how we deliver health services at Randwick. This facility will enable us to continue to attract and retain the best nurses, doctors and support staff and meet the changing health needs of our community. The redevelopment expands opportunities for cutting-edge health research, world first treatments and improved patient outcomes.

What you'll be doing

The Nurse Manager Executive Unit works in collaboration with the Director of Nursing & Deputy Director of Nursing / Director of Operations, Virtual Care Centre to assist with the daily administration and operations of the nursing service. The role requires the incumbent to provide clinical leadership and support of organisation-wide key nursing initiatives of the POWH Nursing Business Plan. The role involves management of key project work and exposure to the executive team, executive governance processes and whole of hospital operations including unplanned and planned patient flow, workforce development and clinical practice improvements. The role will also provide critical analysis of information relating to nursing and hospital business and management of nursing executive correspondence. The role also has oversight of key patient care equipment required across POWH and the daily operational responsibility for the POWH Mortuary. The Nurse Manager has a direct professional and operational reporting structure to the Director of Nursing and is an active member of the Nursing Shared Governance Structure through engagement and participation on Nursing Councils and is required to participate on executive committees. The Nurse Manager will also provide oversight of the POWH Nursing clinical business rules including governance of the revision process, implementation and evaluation.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Registered Nurse who holds current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  2. Relevant management tertiary qualification or working towards same, or a combination of study and work experience with a demonstrated commitment to professional development
  3. Demonstrated experience and competencies in organisational change management and achievements of measurable outcomes
  4. Proven ability in innovative clinical service delivery, harm minimisation and project management
  5. Sound verbal, written and negotiation skills with an aptitude to utilize relevant information technology platforms
  6. Recent broad clinical and operational experience within a complex health care environment
  7. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in human and financial resource management and delivery of health care services
  8. Demonstrated sound knowledge of current clinical practice, its delivery and models of care
