An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Social Worker with a strong interest in acute medical and a commitment to patient centred care to join the experienced and dedicated Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Social Work team.

Where you'll be working
Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital is located in the suburb of Hornsby. The hospital is currently undergoing significant redevelopment and the Social Work team offers a supportive work environment.

What you'll be doing
As the Senior Social Worker on the busy Medical Assessment Unit (MAU), you will be working in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to provide rapid assessments whilst maintaining high level Social Work clinical interventions to patients, carers and families.

This position is part time with one weekend shift per week (Saturday or Sunday). 

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation; Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  2. A bachelor or post graduate degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership to the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), including the ability to demonstrate a practical application of the AASW Code of Ethics.
  3. Demonstrated extensive post-graduate experience working as a Social Worker in a health setting, including a demonstrated understanding of complex health conditions and the impact on patient well-being.
  4. Demonstrated advanced communication skills (both written and oral) and demonstrated competence in the use of electronic information systems.
  5. Excellent negotiation, complex decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  6. Demonstrated ability to prioritise work and manage stressful situations; ability to work unsupervised and apply advanced reasoning skills and professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel or critical nature across a team.
  7. Experience in the provision of supervision to social workers and/or social work students.
  8. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and implement quality improvement and research activities.
