An exciting opportunity exists for a Registered Nurse in the Sexual Health Service within Targeted Clinical Services, Ambulatory and Primary Health Care (APHC) who will provide innovative clinical care and advice to clients with complex health care needs relating to Sexual Health and HIV. This position is responsible for the provision of services across both the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions in primary and outreach settings. Travel is crucial for this position.

What you'll be doing

The primary purpose of the Registered Nurse: Sexual Health Services is to provide outreach education and screening for Blood Borne Viruses (BBVs) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) to Aboriginal communities across the Health District. This position will also establish and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders regarding service delivery including, community engagement, health promotional activities and programs. This position provides services across the Health District in multiple locations and travel is required.
 
The Registered Nurse: Sexual Health Services will deliver comprehensive sexual health nursing care including screening and treatment for sexually transmissible infections and blood borne viruses, contraceptive advice, health promotion activities and ongoing care and management for patients living with HIV and STIs. Priority groups include people living with HIV, men who have sex with men, sex industry workers, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders people, LGBTQI and people who inject drugs.
 
The Registered Nurse: Sexual Health Services is responsible for the provision of person-centred, evidence-based nursing care that promotes positive health outcomes. This position will assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in collaboration with individuals and the multidisciplinary healthcare team. This position will work in therapeutic and professional relationships with individuals, families, groups and communities.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) and a current NSW driver's licence class C.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of evidence based practice and critical thinking.
  3. Recent clinical experience in a relevant health care setting.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to person centred care and NSW Health Core Values.
  5. Demonstrated high level of verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  7. Computer literacy and understanding of relevant health related information systems.
  8. Demonstrated knowledge and strong interest in working in the HIV and Sexual Health setting with priority populations.
