About the opportunity

We are seeking the services of a Psychiatrist who will be an integral part of the newly established Specialist Intellectual Disability Health Team (SIDHT). The team will provide telehealth consultation services in Western NSW, Far West and Murrumbidgee Local Health Districts, for people with intellectual disability.

The SIDHT is a new multidisciplinary team based in Western NSW LHD that will provide a consultation, primarily telehealth, service for people with Intellectual Disability and an unmet health need. The model of care for the SIDHT comprises of two streams of activity: a) clinical care; and b) building the skills, experience and confidence of mainstream health staff.

The Psychiatrist will provide leadership and clinical advice regarding children with intellectual disability, facilitating excellence in evidence based clinical practice, education and research.

The service will be providing virtual consultations, so the Psychiatrist may be located anywhere across Australia, with an expectation of spending 25% of time in Orange, NSW, where the team is located.

Where you'll be working

The team is located at Orange Health Service, a part of the Western NSW Local Health District. The SIDHT sits within the Allied Health and Innovation Directorate and will be located in the ‘Poplars’ building in the grounds of Bloomfield Hospital. The site for this position is negotiable.

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  3. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
  5. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
  6. Fellowship of the applicable College.
  7. Demonstrates an understanding of the current and emerging issues in managing clients with Intellectual Disability.
