The role

We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Molecular Scientist to join our team. This role will see you responsible for day to day performance of all the aspects of the routine operation of the Molecular/PGD Genetics laboratory including, but not limited to:

  • Receiving and processing samples
  • Analysing data, reporting and reviewing
  • Daily equipment checks, equipment calibration and maintenance
  • Maintain stocks of reagents and consumables as required
  • PCR set-up, whole genome amplification, next generation sequencing, capillary electrophoresis, STR linkage analysis, SNP genotyping
  • Contribute to ongoing development, literature reviews, presentations and laboratory meetings

The successful candidate

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, preferably with Honours or equivalent
  • Exhibit a theoretical knowledge of Molecular Genetics testing and screening services
  • Good grounding in molecular laboratory techniques. At least 3 years' practical experience
  • Experience in PCR design, set-up, interpretation and linkage analysis and/or experience in next generation sequencing applications

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a NATA accredited molecular diagnostic laboratory
  • Understanding of the principals and processes required to meet laboratory NATA accreditation
  • Clinical experience in diagnostic, prenatal and preimplantation genetic testing
