Position Title: Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/Transitional Nurse Practitioner- Correctional Health
Employment Type: Maximum Term Full Time, up to 2026
Hours per week: 38 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Position Grade: Clinical Nurse Consultant/ Nurse Practitioner
Salary: $117318.30 to $ 133034.48 per annum plus applicable allowances up to $7000
Enterprise Agreement: Named NSW (non-declared) Affiliated Health Organisations’ Nurses Agreement, 2017

St Vincent’s is contracted by leading service providers MTC Broadspectrum to deliver health services to Parklea Correctional Centre – a major Sydney prison with capacity for 1,816 male inmates.

In 1838, when the Sisters of Charity who founded St Vincent’s arrived in Sydney from Ireland, they immediately went to the Parramatta Female Factory, where they made an important difference to the lives of hundreds of women convicts there. Similarly today, St Vincent’s Correctional Health aims to make a major difference by providing multidisciplinary healthcare to inmates at Parklea Correctional Complex.

Position Summary
A vacancy exists in the above unit within the Parklea Corrections Complex for a highly motivated Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/Transitional Nurse Practitioner with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high quality patient centred care.
As a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/Transitional Nurse Practitioner you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on an individual and the community. You will serve as a critical link to identifying the health care needs of the individual patient and promote health and wellbeing.
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing safe, high quality care in mental health assessment and management of correctional health patients.

Selection Criteria

1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia
2. Currently registered as a registered Nurse with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency and endorsed by the Board to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or, if transitional, evidence of substantial progress towards endorsement.
3. Demonstrated operational, financial, human resource, workplace health and safety and effective communication / interpersonal skills experience at departmental level
4. Comprehensive understanding of clinical governance and current nursing issues
5. Ability to deliver, evidenced based, patient centred care within a complex environment
6. Demonstrated experience in quality improvement principles, clinical policy and procedure development and implementation
7. Computer literacy in MS Word/Excel, Email and an electronic medical record / referral system
8. Demonstrated evidence of integration of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, critical thinking and analysis in their daily practice
