We are seeking applications for a suitably qualified Psychiatrist with an interest and experience in Intellectual Disability Health to join the team.

About the role: 
The Specialised Intellectual Disability Heath team provides comprehensive specialist Psychiatric services for people with an intellectual disability (both Adult and Paediatric patients) across Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) and Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD).

You will provide support training to clinicians in HNELHD and CCLHD across multiple disciplines to achieve quality education and safe clinical practice. As a senior member of the specialist team, you will be required to provide a consultancy service to patients with Intellectual Disability, including those with complex and unmet health needs, providing clinical support and guidance to enable their health needs to be met and for them to be able to engage, as able, with mainstream / primary health services.

The Specialised Intellectual Disability Health Team is based at our HNELHD Wallsend Campus and includes a dedicated and innovative multidisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate:

  • Will have a primary medical degree registrable with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award or the Health Insurance Act 1973.
  • Will have recent clinical experience in Psychiatry and Intellectual Disability patients (both Adult and Paediatric).
  • Will be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  • Will have a commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
