The Role
Communications Assistants receive, record and promptly progress emergency phone calls relating to the request and provision of ambulance services. Being the first point of contact for callers in emergency situations, this role will provide first aid advice and reassurance to the wider NSW community.

Communication – You will be a strong communicator and able to manage your compassion, respect and understanding in any situation. You will understand the unique needs of the public whilst maintaining a professional and empathetic approach.

Deliver Results – You will take the initiative to progress and deliver on results and targets, but also know when to seek specialised advice when required.
Integrity – You will represent the service in an honest, ethical and professional way. You will be experienced in complying with legislation, policies and guidelines in a highly controlled work environment.
Technical – You will be comfortable with using multiple programs at a single time to assist the public. You will be a confident typist with a minimum speed of 30wpm.
First Aid Certificate – You must possess a current First Aid Certificate (or be willing to obtain) and re-certify every three years to maintain currency for non-uniformed employees.

Applicants who are successful in gaining employment as a Communications Assistant must complete training at this level and mentoring, followed by 6 months of independent practice as a Triple Zero (000) emergency call taker before being eligible to apply or transfer to other positions with NSW Ambulance.
To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must hold Australian Citizenship or permanent Australian residency.
