Clinical Nurse 0.8 FTE Central Ward (Surgical)
Availability to work Morning, Evening and Night duty

St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital (SATH) is a progressive 155 bed private not-for-profit stand-alone facility located in Toowoomba which is in the heart of South East Queensland, less than two hour drive west of Brisbane. The city is the economic and commercial hub of the Darling Downs region with a population of over 160,000 people. Toowoomba offers an exceptional standard of living with access to nationally acclaimed schooling, with the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast both within easy reach for a weekend away.
St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital’s 32 bed Central (Surgical) Ward performs a range of surgical specialties including general, gynaecology, urology, vascular, gastro-intestinal and colorectal surgery. The Hospital’s Central Surgical Ward supports surgery performed through our 11 room theatre complex, in particular the Blue Olympus endoalpha theatre, the hybrid vascular lab and cases performed with the da Vinci Xi robot.

SATH has an exciting opportunity for a committed and motivated Clinical Nurse within our Central Surgical Ward. Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager you will be tasked with:

  • Demonstrating clinical leadership
  • Provision of staff education and maintaining competencies
  • Support the Clinical Nurse Manager
  • Policy review and development
  • Ongoing quality improvement initiatives

Mandatory Qualification/ Professional Registration/ Other Requirements:

  • Registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse
  • Previous experience in general, colorectal, urological and gynae surgical nursing- minimum 3 years
  • Demonstrate advanced interpersonal and communication skills
  • Adult advanced life support preferred

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide clinical leadership and expertise, demonstrate initiative, establish problem solving skills, excellent communication and have the ability to delegate to maintain effectiveness throughout the shift
  • Fulfill obligations in terms of being available and working morning, afternoon and night shifts
  • Maintain responsibility for daily coordination of Central Ward in the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager or after hours
  • Allocation of nursing resources and staffing
  • Monitor staff performance and skill requirements
  • Remain competent in all aspects of surgical nursing
  • Develop and maintain a professional working relationship with our Visiting Medical Officers
