Located on the edge of Adelaide's CBD adjacent to the beautiful South Eastern Park Lands, St Andrew's is the largest independent private Hospital in Australia, with 30,000 procedures being performed each year. Our patients are admitted electively or via our Emergency Service, and we cater for most surgical specialties including, but not limited to, cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, urology, vascular, colorectal, orthopaedics, daVinci (Robotic) systems, breast and gynaecology,. Building on our successful base, in 2018 we completed a $50 million upgrade and expansion of our clinical facilities with more improvements planned for 2020 and beyond.

About The Role:
Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Nursing - Wards & Privacy Officer this newly created role will work closely with key internal stakeholders. The Privacy Assistant assists in the ongoing review, implementation and maintenance of the organisation’s Privacy Policy and Procedures, while coordinating the handling of internal and external privacy enquiries, privacy complaints and requests for access to, and correction of, personal information. The successful applicant will also develop and deliver training on Privacy related matters to employees of the Hospital.

Key responsibilities include:
Management of Privacy Requests based on the Privacy Act 1988 and associated Privacy Principles in an environment of excellent customer service.
Review, and reporting of, requested information for potential risk exposure for the organisation.
Participate in reviews of privacy management processes and policy to ensure appropriate controls are in place to protect personal information and implement identified recommendations.
Utilise the hospital’s reporting processes, (CGOV), to report and record potential and actual risk issues by ensuring the maintenance of records in relation to all interactions regarding privacy.
In conjunction with the ADON Wards and Privacy, ensure all suspected breaches of the Privacy Policy are investigated, reported, resolved appropriately and used to further improve internal processes as required.
Provision of case records in relation to genetic counselling and research.
Provision of advice and education to staff in relation to the Privacy Act and Privacy Principles as required.

About You:
Our ideal candidate will need to demonstrate:
Sound medical knowledge and familiarity with medical terminology
Experience in a similar role, ideally within a Healthcare setting
Completion of training in Privacy Act 1988 or demonstrated practical knowledge of the Act and associated principles
Strong customer service and communication skills (verbal & written)
Good understanding of risk management and mitigation strategies
Good understanding of the National Safety & Quality Health Service (NSQHS)
Strong analytical skills
Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously, make decisions and operate as part of a team
Intermediate IT skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
A commitment to professional development in Privacy Legislation, Information Systems and Customer Services.

You may be a Registered or Enrolled Nurse, although this is not essential; candidates with recent and significant experience working in a medical or healthcare environment with a keen interest in Privacy matters will be considered as well.

Hours:
This is a part time position, 30 hours per fortnight with the days and hours negotiated with the successful candidate.
