The Director of Nursing and Support Services, Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital is responsible for functioning as a key member of the Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital & Health Services Executive, is responsible for the Nursing Service and support services within the facility and providing a shared responsibility for the leadership of all facility staff.

This position is accountable for effective clinical and corporate governance, organisational and strategic management, service planning, development and management of efficient allocation and utilisation of nursing workforce to assist in the delivery of high quality clinical services in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and disaster management.

This position provides visible and accessible nursing leadership promoting a positive workplace culture based on the NSW Health CORE values and promoting nursing leadership where individuals understand their roles and responsibilities and are empowered to be effective in their role.
 

Selection Criteria:

  1. Current Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  2. Recognised tertiary management qualifications including recently engaged in professional development to further enhance their management and leadership competencies with demonstrated recent experience at senior nursing management level in an acute hospital.
  3. Proven ability to ensure the human, physical and financial resources of the service/facility are managed within a defined budget to provide safe, compassionate, quality care that is culturally responsive.
  4. Demonstrated experience in strategic workforce planning, including proven ability to implement contemporary workforce models that adapt to changing models of service delivery.
  5. Demonstrated understanding of NSW Health’s Strategic Directions, Quality and Safety Framework and the Nursing and Midwifery agenda.
  6. Extensive leadership using contemporary change management methodologies and an understanding of current issues impacting on the nurse profession.
  7. Superior communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with all levels of staff, patients and external agencies and the ability to positively influence organisational change.
