ED Medical Officer


Classification HM16-20


Fixed Term - Full Time


(76 hrs per fortnight)



This position is for a Medical Officer who is interested attaining valuable diverse experience in emergency medicine in a large rural hospital environment. This position would be particularly suited to a rural GP or GP trainee.


Supervision in the ED is provided by FACEMs and Senior Medical officers. Role responsibilities include initial assessment and management of patients attending the Emergency Department. The ED has an average of 15,500 attendance per annum in a 9 bed unit, including two resuscitation beds. The Hospital has an average of 12,000 admissions and 4,600 operations annually. It has a modern theatre complex, including a day procedure unit, a five-bed intensive care unit, and high-quality emergency department and ward facilities.


Key Selection Criteria include:


Essential:
? - MBBS or equivalent degree
? - Limited or Full general registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) - Minimum of level 3 supervision.
? - A minimum of six years postgraduate experience of which a minimum of two years should be in an Emergency Department.
? - Experience in the supervision of junior medical staff (first year interns)
Desirable:
? - Experience in rural Australian Emergency Department
? - Working toward or attained Advanced Adult and Paediatric Life Support or equivalent
